I noticed under setup options on the Misc tab there is anoption to Detect Mentor/Allegro/Altium. What does this do or allow you to do > As a Cadence Allegro user I am keen to know

Thanks for your question. Each Layout tool usually has a certain type of "readme" or configuration file that includes additional information about your designs -- that are not in the Gerbers (such as Stackup, Layer type, etc.). When that option is checked FAB 3000 will load your gerber/drill files, and also search for any readme, configuration files, to extract more information.
