I can edit traces etc. Does the software permit copying or creating a via like one already on the board?

Yes FAB 3000 does allow anyone to copy or create new vias - like ones already on the board. I have created a quick tutorial (no sound) showing me add a new via on the same net. I also use the stretch command to drag an existing via to a new location (just like layout software).
