exploded blocks don't de-embed

When importing a DWG that contains block, and selecting the checkbox option to "explode all inserts" and also having the "DeEmbed" option selected, the blocks are exploded but the DeEmbed seems to not work.

If I explode them in AutoCAD before import, the DeEmbed works great.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your question. De-Embed behaves similar to AutoCAD's Solid Hatch.  Both require you to "explode" the objects to base elements (like polylines, circles etc.) before it works and fills in the areas.

Thanks.

Simon

Hi Simon,

Understood.

Is there a way to use the "Explode all Inserts" checkbox with the "De-Embed" feature in ACE? My testing was not able to have the blocks de-embedded at all, although they appear to have been exploded. Do you know of a specific workflow to make these two options work together?

Regards,
Jeff

Thanks for your question.  The option "Explode All Inserts" flattens the blocks (lastly) after importing in the DXF.

Alternatives (inside AutoCAD):
1. You can explode those blocks and then export to ACE for conversion (De-Embed will then work).
2. Use Solid Hatch to fill in the Areas you wish, and ACE will convert the DXF Solid hatches to Gerber.
3. You could keep the Blocks (no explode) and put those "clear circles or objects" on a separate layer called "Scratch" (or whatever you wish) and then perform the conversion
ACE has an example called "Compos.dxf" which is an array block with clear and dark areas placed onto separate layers.  View this link and the very last example shows how to convert the Compos.dxf example using EasyGerb (both EasyGerb and ACE have similar options when converting to gerber)

Use ACE Viewer:
Explode blocks (menu: Edit | Explode) and then perform De-Embedding (menu: Edit | De-Embed).  Typically it's best to edit the original DXF and not in the ACE viewer.

Thanks.

Simon
