STEP is an international standard, it is very conservative about the geometry types it allows, and it's no problem for us to create all the geometry. Parasolid, on the other hand, includes a number of fairly specialized geometry types that we not have an equivalent for. In those cases we have to approximate the geometry as NURBS geometry, and the approximation process is both slow and error prone. Usually the broad strokes of a Parasolid model come through correctly, but the small fillet surface details that are supposed to smoothly connect a surface to its neighbor might not make it through.
