PDF to Gerber Accuracy?

The data in PDF files is very accurate and is used by many companies for their high-resolution mask making - there is really no limitation in the accuracy (for vector objects - like Polygons, Lines, Circles, text, etc.). The perception is that since most people print their PDF's out to 600 DPI printers, etc. that the PDF is only good to that resolution.
Note: I would recommend the PDF to Gerber conversion would be the way to go for the following reasons:
1. The PDF is an accurate format and there shouldn't be any conversion accuracy limitations.
2. When converting PDF to Gerber, holes & islands (clear areas inside dark areas) are automatically detected and outputted in gerber.
3. It is typically easier to convert a PDF to Gerber (than DXF to Gerber).
